Four Pillar Updates Community Outreach With the successes that events such as Mt Sinai's Kids Club Event, Rebuilding Together and the Lakeview Food Pantry have provided, Community Outreach is continuing to provide similar opportunities in the upcoming future: Indo-American Center Workshops NetIP Chicago is organizing a series of substantive workshops ranging from immigration issues, filing taxes, literacy, and civics. We will be launching our first workshop, Immigration 101 on Saturday, July 24th at the Indo-American Center. More information about registration can be obtained from http://www.netipchicago.org.
We plan to continue hosting a new topic each month and welcome specific workshop requests and volunteers. On-going Food Pantry Opportunities NetIP is also collaborating with Lakeview Food Pantry to set-up a monthly program where NetIP members will have the opportunity to participate in the distribution services to low income and homeless families as we recently did in June. More information about registration can be obtained from http://www.netipchicago.org. Cultural Awareness Take eighteen South Asian acts, add seven hilarious masters of ceremony, a pinch of Chicago flavor and what do you get? Chicago Ka Andaaz!
NetIP Chicago’s culture show is ready to be one magical event and with over one thousand guests expected, it’s set to be Chicago’s biggest South Asian show! However, no large scale show is possible without the dedication and hard work of several individuals. From coming up with the theme, holding auditions, working out details of the event, to marketing and finding sponsors – our cultural committee has put in a lot of hard work to make this event a reality!
The show will feature dance performances by UIC Dangeraas, Bollyritmo, and singing acts by Susmita De and Anand Iyer. Tantalizing appetizers will be served courtesy Tiffin restaurant and there’s an exclusive after-party to carry on the festivities.
For more information about the show, check out our website http://netipchicago.org/cultureshow.
Tickets are on sale and in limited quantity, so don’t miss out on the excitement! Political Awareness NetIP strives to educate its members about the political process in the United States, at the local, state, and federal level. We facilitate forums where members can hear about current issues in the news from experts and discuss relevant issues. NetIP also conducts meetings with elected officials to understand their efforts in assisting the South Asian community. Many prominent South Asian politicians have spoken at our local chapter events and annual conferences over the years. Professional Development On the heels of the sucess of the informative Professional Development Workshop held in June regarding how to protect your online and physical identity, NetIP Chicago is excited to continue its Professional Development Speaker Series on July 15, 2010. The July 15 Speaker event will feature Ravi Baichwal, a co-anchor for ABC 7's weekend newscast and 2008 Emmy award winner. Ravi will give brief remarks regarding how he has reinvented and transformed his career from government and politics to broadcast journalism. He will also share his insight into career management for young and established professionals. The event will be held in the historic Rookery building located at 209 S. LaSalle Street and will feature a pre-event cocktail reception sponsored by Tabet DiVito & Rothstein LLC. Following Ravi's presentation, guests are encouraged to pose questions to Ravi during an informal question and answer session, network with other Chicago professionals and enjoy the ambiance. Due to overwhelming response for this event, online registration is now closed. Waitlisting is available by emailing
